You've reversed my opinion on the Micromanagement style; it's not 100% bad. I've always considered micromanagers "Bad" managers, but perhaps I was too hasty. As you point out, there are times when it's appropriate to micromanage a team, assuming they have the personality for it.
In my experience, that's when trouble begins. Personality types like perfectionists should never use micromanagement because the team is never good enough. Being a perfectionist isn't flawed unless they try to impose it on others who aren't seeking perfection and are happy with "good enough." Managers shouldn't accept mediocracy either, but sometimes they don't know when to quit.
The best personality type for micromanagers is a person who is compassionate, sympathetic, and caring.
